Your newborn baby needs you. It is okay to nurse, rock, walk, hold or feed your newborn to sleep.  Don't be scared of creating "bad sleep habits". You can work on your baby's sleep habits once your baby is ready. 
.
For now, enjoy those precious moments without feeling guilty. Your baby needs you and that is totally normal.

Your baby’s sleep cues can be good indicators of when he’s ready to go down for a nap to get the best possible sleep! Spotting those baby sleep cues so you can get him to sleep and avoid an overtired baby.

These are the INITIAL signs of sleepiness that your baby will exhibit when he is getting sleepy and ready for a nap. Once he starts showing these, it’s a good idea to start your nap routine or bedtime routine.

-Avoids eye contact
-Decreased activity
-Starts zoning out
-Less vocal / Quieter
-Less social
-Calmer
-Redness around the eyebrows
-Turns head away.

These are the sleepy cues your baby might make when they are  tired.REALLY It can be a short time between tired and overtired!

-Yawning
-Rubbing eyes or face
-Tugging at ears
-Drooping eyelids
-Jerky limb movements
.
And these are the "oh oh...I waited for too long" OVERTIRED signs:

-Clingy behavior
-Clenched fists
-Arched back
-Fussiness / Cranky
-Crying
-Acting out / Tantrums (Geared more toward toddlers).

Paying attention to your baby's sleepy cues can really help. Sometimes 10 or 15 minutes can make a huge difference making it easy for him to fall asleep. Happy sleep!

It is important to see the situation from a holistic perspective and consider even the emotional aspect of the process.  Emotional needs of the little one, nutrition, sleep associations and sleep environment are just a few pieces to consider.

You’ve probably seen this before when your baby You’ve probably seen this before when your baby was around 4 months, and it WASN’T fun. Your baby, who got through the last sleep regression and was finally sleeping well day and night, is suddenly waking early from her naps and up all night. 
You know it’s a sleep regression when your baby is experiencing:
.
-Increased fussiness
-Multiple night wakings
-Fewer naps or short “disaster naps”
-Changes in appetite.
.
How should you respond to this temporary, exciting, and difficult phase?
.
-Offer lots of comfort and reassurance — extra hugs and cuddles help
-More feedings — growth spurts can be part of a sleep regression
-Avoid over tiredness — stick to naps and consider an earlier bedtime if she seems extra tired or extra fussy in the evening.
.
Don’t forget that this phase is TEMPORARY. It usually doesn’t last more than 2-3 weeks. While you both may be tired and frustrated now, you will be back to better nights and playful days soon. In fact, your baby may have some new skills to wow you with when it’s over!
